We recently launched our summer campaign – Denim For Every Body – our first campaign that showcases the diversity of our denim offering, catering to range of different ages, body shapes and sizes.

Model and body positive advocate, Bree Warren featured as part of our summer campaign and we sat down with her post shoot to chat about her thoughts on more inclusive and diverse size representation in the media as well as body confidence amongst the younger generation.

Describe yourself in 5 words or less?

Happy, chill, fun…I hope

How did you first get into modelling? Tell us more about your journey as a curve model.

I was scouted a few times as a teenager and I did actually sign with an agency in Brisbane early on however I never really got much work. I was sort of in this middle size category and most people weren’t really sure what to do with me! I was naturally bigger and curvier than every other model. I think the industry was very one-dimensional back then – models had to be super thin and that was it.

It wasn’t until a few years later when I was on holiday in New York, I was signed to a plus size division and that’s when things really started to take off. I spent 3 years living in London and working throughout Europe and then the last 5 years based in New York.

What is your favourite part about what you do?

For me it’s always been about the fashion. That’s why I started and I think that’s why I am still here. But it has definitely evolved into something much more now. I love that I get to be creative and have fun with it! For years, there has really been one body type represented through models and magazines, despite the fact that there are countless different body shapes & sizes.

You’re a great advocate for body positivity, how important is it to you to spread the message about body positivity particularly to the younger generation?

In my opinion it’s crucial! The next generation needs to grow up seeing diversity in the media. You can’t just have one way to be beautiful or one type of model. It doesn’t make sense. Diversity needs to be the norm so young girls grow up into body confident women.

Why do you think people resonate so strongly with your message?

I think it’s because I have a normal, relatable body. I think I represent a middle ground in fashion that wasn’t there before! Social media has changed everything. In the past fashion was elusive and unattainable whereas now people want to see it all. They want to see everyday outfits, real bodies and models that look more like them. It’s a cool new era where everything is very open and honest now.

What do you think is the most important thing when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally?

Focusing on the positives is number one. When you get in that headspace of comparing yourself to others it’s a really slippery slope both physically and mentally. This is the bad side of social media. You can’t live through other people. You have to be happy with your achievements and your own goals. We are all guilty of it from time to time, but I try to admire not envy.

When do you feel the most happy?

At the beach with Mitch! We have just bought a house on the Sunshine Coast and the beach is at the end of the street so I’m there a lot more now. It’s the best refresh.

If you could give 13 year old you some advice – what would that advice be?

Everything will turn out just fine! I think when you’re young everything is so intense and amplified. At 13, I was so worried about fitting in and now I realise that none of that really matters! Who cares about fitting in.
